Prom fashion: How to DIY prom gown at home

I believe every girl would feel frustrated if she arrives at the prom excitedly but finds that someone is wearing the same dress with her. Every girl wishes to be unique on the prom. If you are seeking for originality, why not DIY your prom dress at home. I’m pretty sure that your dress would be the most distinctive one.

It would take a lot of money to buy a well-made prom dress. The fact is that not every person has an unlimited budget to buy designer duds for the special night. In fact, you can create the dress of your dreams for a fraction of the price with some patience, a small amount of money for basic supplies and a little sewing experience.

Here are some steps to DIY a prom dress:
First of all, purchase or make a pattern in your height and size. Many fabrics stores sell pattern with sewing instructions. Then, you may buy the materials you need for your dress. You should take care of your materials since most prom dress fabrics are fabrics like satin, lace, silk or velvet. These fabrics need special care instructions. After you have chosen your dress fabric, you may choose all necessary notions such as hooks, eyes, zippers, buttons, lace, hemming lace, Interfacing, etc. Before you start to cut out the pattern pieces, you must read through your instructions carefully. Cut out the pattern pieces you will use and put the others away. Then, take out your cloth and lay out it according to the pattern recommendation, pin your pattern piece, cut out the pieces. At last, sew all pieces together according to instructions. If you want your dress to look more exquisite, you may add your own design with beads, feathers and other fun extras.

Make a Tutu Prom Dress
A tutu prom dress is a type of dress inspired by ballet. The dress is comprised of a corset bodice in the color of your choice to give a nice shape to the body and improve the look of the bouffant tutu skirt, made of layers of delicate-looking tulle fabric. How to do:
First, lay the corset on your work surface and measure the circumference of the bottom opening of the bodice. Then you may cut the elastic according to this measurement. This will form the waist of the dress and keep the appropriate measurements for the tutu. Overlap the elastic ends about an inch and sew them together. After that, cut the tulle in strips. The length of the strips should double the preferred length of the dress skirt.  Fold one strip of tulle over the elastic so the middle of the tulle ends up at the elastic. Tie the tulle in a firm knot around the elastic or ribbon. Repeat until the elastic or ribbon is completely covered and the tulle forms a skirt. At last, attach the skirt to the corset.
