Lets get its straight - I am not really a Madonna "Fan". I do like some of her songs but I am by no means a person who goes crazy over her or any celebrity at that. Sure I can give credit where credit is due ... Madonna has proven herself to be a resilient and adaptable pop artist who has had and still continues to have a lengthy, influential and substantial career. Kudos granted.

So then .. What is a girl like me doing with a bottle of her fragrance? Well while I was considering buying some new scents by looking at fragrance reviews on blogs and youtube videos .. I found this one, which mentioned that Truth or Dare was a dupe/smell-a-like of the well-known and loved Fracas perfume. Now I'm not a perfume cynosure but a name like Fracas (in French it means brawl/crash/fight?) sounds expensive and guess what it is. I was intrigued but since I didn't know what Fracas smelt like I didn't think much of it.
Roll on now to my boots trip ...
While in Boots at the sale rack, I saw a bottle of Truth or Dare amongst the marked downed Britney's and J-Lo's (bottles) ..."Another celeb. frag" I thought and with a blasé look on my face"... I smelt it, and the scent was interestingly good. Colour me surprised. Yeah I admit it, I usually have a very low expectation of "celebrity" fragrances and why shouldn't I! ...
I was after all gifted (more like passed on) a celeb (I use the term very loosely) fragrance (I use that term loosely too) which smelt like a bad knock off of toothpaste ... toothpaste - how can you mess that scent up? Well I don't know but, someone did it ...
So to be hit by a scent which smelt really nice was a shock. In spite of myself and my own hypocrisy I enquired to the Sales Assistant if there were any I could buy (it was the only tester on shop floor) he kindly checked for me but, it was out of stock in the store and all other localities and online. Phooey, drat and bother. I left the store and life went on without truth or dare ... until I found it online for a bargain price of (drum roll please) £12.50 for 75ml's not bad since at its beginning it retailed for around £25. This was actually my first ever self bought celebrity fragrance - that ultimately made me a bit less of a celeb frag critic (leading me to buy Fantasy and even sniff a Kardashian - not my taste but at least I tried).
Now many people (especially Madonna fans it seems) have expressed their dislike about Truth or Dare. Saying that it doesn't really encapsulate what Madonna's public career/image/persona is to them. So what does Truth or dare smell like to me?

| A pretty big white opaque glass bottle which looks like a miss match of a coffin, and a "religious"sceptre + book - no surprise. Its unique and I like it - even though I feel like I've got some sort of lost relic that should be in Indiana Jones or something. |
Truth or Dare smells "womanly" (maybe even a little girly) - definitely a floral with some musky notes in it but, not too much. It definitely gives off a sophisticated vibe which to me may elude to a woman who is quite constant and consistent in her tastes/values, a mother maybe or a career woman. Basically, the fragrance (to me) suggests that the wearer is not one who is beguiled by life, as its sweetness is not immature or naive. I feel that the scent foretells a condition of wisdom and even sadness because of the dry almost woody base notes. I really like the scent and whilst I may not wear it often because its quite a statement fragrance (mid range strength) it definitely has a lot of character to it - which is something that I will have to grow into for now. Personally I feel that this fragrance is a big win. Madonna should be proud of this fragrance even if perfume experts say its merely a knock off of Fracas - she has (and the perfumers behind it) done well.

Oh and I'd just like to add. That I love the fact that Madonna has made a fragrance that she likes (apparently her mother was said to love Fracas perfume and always wore it) rather than churning out the sickly sweet or "clean" scents which the mass markets devour and spit out routinely. This fragrance is definitely one that may withstand the test of time and in my opinion should have appealed to her target market. Whilst Madonna is always seen as a changeling I think she always tries to maintain a state of class (don't laugh) and not succumb to complete wild abandonment so maybe this scent suggests where her real core values lie - her career and motherhood. Maybe? ...

P.S. It does smell like Fracas. Go on - give it a spritz - I dare you!
